Linas Cicėnas
Vilnius. We have found such Linas’ description in one daily: Ironic and free but looking for attention and understanding. His oeuvre is similar. Large-format decorative canvasses pretend to be unsophisticated and sentimentally naive. Their images however leave a lasting imprint in one‘s mind. Linas, while participating in the contemporary art project Art-o-thlon says that as many as 95% of the wide public fail to understand what that contemporary art is. The artist says he is a part of business and is manipulated with. Invited by the British artist Andrea Kogan he went to England but returned, because: I saw a dream that I have to come back home and fight against pigs, oiks and renegers. I will not tell you all the precise details, but that was the essence. Thus I came back and everything started slowly sorting out,- says Linas. He says that he experienced all of it while studying art, both intolerance and oppression. I have graduated from the Academy only thanks to such instructors as Augustinas Savickas, Vitalijus Mazuras, Adomas Jacovskis… Therefore he daringly dives into the wide waters of Art-o-thlon, without any fear that competent jurors may not understand his artistic creativity…
